Our system tracks vessel port calls globally using both satellite and terrestrial AIS data.
How We Extract Port Calls
We monitor all vessels worldwide. For a subset of over 6,600 container vessels, we perform detailed tracking and data processing:
Data Collection
- AIS positions are sampled and stored for a 30-day window.
- We focus only on positions that meet two criteria:
- The vessel is inside a port area (as defined by our port polygons).
- The vessel is stopped.
Event Detection
From these filtered positions, we identify:
- ATA (Actual Time of Arrival): the first timestamp when the vessel enters the port and stops.
- ATD (Actual Time of Departure): the last timestamp before the vessel resumes movement and leaves the port.
These timestamps define a port call event.
Note: Port call data is updated in real time.
Coverage
Currently, we track over 6,600 container vessels in this detailed mode. If the vessel of interest is not covered, please reach out to us.
