Container Tracking Basics

Understand key blocs of the Container Tracking API response data

Shipments & Sealines

The key input of the Container Tracking API is a shipment. A shipment can be a Container number (CT), a Booking Number (BK) or a Bill of Lading reference (BL).

Shipments are associated to a sealine : if you can, we recommend specifying the sealine as an input in your request to ensure the api response is relevant to your request.

📘

If you do not specify the sealine in your request, the api will try to autodetect it. Sometimes, data from another voyage from another sealine than the one you are searching can be retrieved.

Dates

Dates are associated to locations and can be either estimated or actual.

Dates are linked to locations : you can detect ETAs and ETDs based on which location they are linked to.

  • For example, a date linked to a POL (Port of Loading) indicates the departure of the shipment from this port.
  • A date linked to a POD (Port of Discharge) indicates the arrival of the shipment at this port.

If the date is marked with the field "actual = true" this means the event has actually occurred. If the field is marked with "actual = false", the date is estimated.

Events

Events include details about the shipment journey
